Majestically, you sit in the middle of the road
Jamming traffic, disrupting your heavenly abode.
Bravely, here I come with a suggestion for you
All those pedestrians, please haunt them too.
Just look how much the traffic has grown
The footpath is now your ultimate throne.
We’re here to pray, please spare us your wrath
Go and terrorize the people on the footpath!
Hurray, here comes the rain,
Traffic jams and all the pain
Oh Rain, please come again,
And bring with you the overflowing drains.
Thundering clouds, bring all your darkness
Cut our Electricity, leave us TV-less.
Crashing down, no mercy you showed
Digging giant potholes in our roads.
But dear dark clouds, I wait for you every night,
Come quick, and come with all your might.
Thunder through the sky like a scar
Please come down and wash my car!
When I was first trying to woo the wife, I thought it’ll be really romantic to write her a poem. So I wrote up this poem, complete with flowery ‘g’s and dotted ‘i’s. After I gave the poem to her, she avoided me for several days. I’ve never really figured out why. Anyway, here’s the the original poem.
Ooo my dear rosy
You make me all woozy
I am here, sitting in class
You are there, across the green grass
What is life: Love and friendship?
Woe is me, with all my hardship
Our meeting, it cannot be incidental,
Nothing else rhymes, so I’ll say environmental
You came in my life like a tornado
And left my little soul like a tomato
My kidney, liver and heart have formed a group
Swimming like a bread crumb in tomato soup
Come with me, lets share the pain,
It’s a good deal, there’s a lot to gain
Let’s go out, dancing in the rain,
Please don’t think of me as insane!
The dawn comes after a long night’s rest,
Waiting for me are 32 bugs and feature requests.
It is a glorious morning, and the rest of the day surely follows
Lucky me, I’ll spend it in a cubicle farm without windows.
I drag myself out of bed, getting ready for the day
Greeted by the pollution and the autos that bray.
The journey through the traffic is always such a drag,
Startled, I remember: “Damnit, I forgot the office badge”
I sneak in through the door behind a collegue with glee,
The day is just starting, but the boss has already spotted me.
Thundering, he asks me the status of bug 4572-GSA,
I have no idea, but still say “It’ll be ready later today”.
The whole day doesn’t seem to end! In school, there was at least a bell
I survive the day, but soon it’s time for the weekly conf call from hell.
I spend the meeting praying no work gets assigned to me,
Oh Crap! we don’t even have a god for the software industry!
The day is finally over, I leave behind the “on-site” savage hoards
Getting back home, I still have a date with the traffic at silk board.
I hit the bed, trying to think of what the hell I’m doing
This is my life, full of ambition, purpose and meaning.
Here’s some help for all the people who struggle to find words to propose… Let me know if it works for you.
The first time I saw you, I saw all stars
I was all woozie, and a big pain in the arse
My heart skipped a beat, I was warm and blue
It was then that I realized, I had the bird flu
On my heart you did a dlopen,
I found myself in 64-bit heaven
You’ve instrumented me, each and every line
Now all I need is strict compilation at runtime
Without you, I am not complete,
You make my life a never-ending treat
By the gods of Linux, AIX and Solaris, show me the light
Will you be my kernel of my life?
