As the world’s most powerful Particle Accelerator prepares to go online in May ‘08, there is an increasing community of people that are getting worried. They claim that the LHC, as it is called, is powerful enough to create what are called ‘mini-black holes’ that will gobble up the earth. These are real black holes, the kinds that suck in everything.
I can already hear you say “That’s just a conspiracy theory, nothing is going to happen”, but get this: CERN, the organization building this thing, is itself admitting that there is a non-zero probability that the black-hole will really form. And then we’re all going to be squished into a dense, hot, dark black hole.
